Sigtuna

After a week in a lovely cabin in the woods, without wi-fi, we can resume the blog.  We've been taking pictures like mad, but unable to post.  So we'll knock off a few posts of mostly pictures, because we'd rather get out and enjoy the lovely Swedish summer instead of sitting here at the computer!

First, a visit to Sigtuna, "where Sweden began".  One of the very first towns established in Sweden, originally a market town. Stora Gatan, said to be Sweden's oldest main street, dates back to the 10th century.

There is a brick church from the 1300s, Saint Mary's, and then there are ruins of three churches from even earlier.

On the way home, we stopped at Viby, a typical farming community or crofter's village, still laid out as it was in the mid-1800s.  Now mostly summer homes and rentals.
