This was a large part of the reason we came to this isolated area. Sheila ran across a mention of the restaurant Hävvi i Glen, while researching something entirely different. It seemed too unsual to pass up…a four-star restaurant in the middle of nowhere! Literally…40 kilometers of that good gravel road from the nearest “town”…which didn’t even seem to have a grocery store.
The scenery in the high fjälls was lovely, and the food was….incredible. It turned out that we were there one day before they officially opened for the season, so we were the only guests. Every dish was lovingly described to us by Line (LEE-neh), the chef. All locally-produced, with unusual (to us, anyway) ingredients such as sea buckthorn berries, smoked reindeer, and angelica.
Funny, it doesn’t LOOK like a four-star restaurant….
Our cabin for the night.
But oh, the food….
We sat all alone in this lovely room…but did NOT order the 9-dish “tasting menu” described here. You need 4 people for that, and to order at least 7 days in advance. Who’s in for next time?? $165/person….
Appetizer…
Lars’ main course…
Sheila’s main course….
And dessert!
Skoal!
